Oshkosh Striker 3000 ARFF Truck

by: Steven Downes

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Oshkosh Striker 3000 ARFF model which is based on the full sized vehicle in service at the Vancouver international airport in Canada.

The front lower compartment has an extending hose reel which has a simulated rubber hose and nozzle. The compartment behind the cab can also be opened and doing so reveals two small openings with simulated black hose lines. The roof of the model has photo etched metal plates with an intricate pattern etched into them. The two central mounted amber beacons and the two long railing sections are separate in the box and require fixing to the model.

The top deck has four large halogen flood lights pointing out to each side of the vehicle while the main floodlight system is mounted to an extending telescopic boom allowing rotation, angle and height adjustment of the two floodlight panels.

The front of the model has a highly detailed bumper mounted turret with the ability to rotate and raise / lower the spray head and it is complete with flexible hoses. The roof mounted turret also has the ability to be fully positioned as required.

The rear of the model has a centrally mounted hinged door panel which can be opened to reveal the engine detail inside. The two side compartments at the rear of the model do not have the ability to close due to model limitations and are glued in place. The deck access ladder can be folded down and the roof mounted extension ladders can be removed from the model.

The photo etched steps below the cab can be folded into the travel position and the cab interior has been fully modelled with authentic looking seats, complete with safety belts, fully reproduced control station with controls and monitor screens all visible through the clear glazed windows. Photo etched windscreen wipers are added to the front screen and the rear view and front view mirrors are provided in the box and need connecting to the model.

The mirrors are not a tight fit so a little glue may be required to keep the mirrors in place. The two side panels at the rear of the model can be opened to reveal the engine compartment, where the centrally mounted engine block is just about visible inside. The photo etched side cooling panels and roof mounted grill add to the realism of the model and the large chrome exhaust stack is fitted to the rear corner of the model.

This is simply the best model I have ever had the pleasure to own. out of the four strikers I own this one takes the cake for best color option as well as features. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT

  4. Awesome

I was blown away when i open the box, it was just awesome espcially the details and build quality. Did not like the plastic protective wrapping on the nozzle, took some time to open it as the nozzle was delicate. Other than that its an excellent piece.

Hey guys. Britt from diecastmodels.co. Today we have the OshKosh Striker 3000ARFF Truck in both the Toronto Livery and the Vancouver Livery.

These trucks are pretty close to being the same. There are a few differences, so we're going to take a look at each one of them separately. We're going to start off with all the similarities. They both have a front nozzle or a turret and the bumper turret can be pushed down and gives it a low angle reach so you can get a lower angle on the fire to help put that out.

You also have the top turrets on both of them. They both rotate 360 degrees. Another feature that is the same are the work lights on top and the red beacons towards the rear. They both have matching aerials and on top of both of the models, there are photo etched walkways. They're also extendable telescoping work lights on both models. The work lights rotate around 360 degrees and they can also be folded down when they are closed.

Also, each one of the models features two amber beacons, one on each side of the model. On the rear there are two red beacons. The Toronto has the light bar on the back and the Vancouver does not. A lot of the different departments like to feature what is inside their actual Strikers and Vancouver and Toronto must have these same things, so that's pretty neat.

Like for instance, there's a hose right here on the Vancouver one and the same compartment has a hose on the Toronto one.

Also, major difference is the ladder placement. You have a flat ladder here for storage and you have the vertical ladder storage on the Toronto model. Also on the Vancouver model there are side work lights as where on the Toronto one, you don't have those.

Another major difference is the exhaust pipe. The chrome exhaust pipe is on the Vancouver as where you have a black exhaust on the Toronto model.

Once again these are the OshKosh Striker 3000ARFF trucks in both the Vancouver and Toronto Livery. They're in 1/50th scale made by TWH. You can get yours today at www.diecastmodels.co. Thanks for tuning in. You'll see me next time.
