Liebherr T264 Off-Road Mining Truck
The flagship Liebherr T282 has been a popular model for a number of years and with the recent re-introduction of the smaller T264 to replace the aging T262 design, it was no surprise that Liebherr would choose to commission a die-cast model of their latest haul truck with Conrad once again producing a stunning replica with great levels of engineering and detail.
While smaller than the mighty T282, the T264 is still impressive in size and weight with a mostly metal construction consisting of the main chassis structure with working rear suspension and a steering front axle which is powered by hydraulic cylinders.
The underside highlights the drivetrain from the engine and transmission to the rear gearbox which is accurately modelled. At the heart of the chassis is a replicated engine block with inner service ladders fitted to the frame.
The large front grill is made from an etched plate which really adds realism, complete with both side access ladders and a sloping stairway diagonally located across the front leading to the upper deck which has a textured surface, opening safety railings, the main electrical cabinet and fire suppression canisters.
The dump body can be tipped to a very realistic height with stiff hydraulic cylinders ensuring it remains in the raised position unaided with rubber mud flaps and protective debris bars located on the underside of the body. Twin exhaust pipes peek out from the underside of the deck with piping visible once the body is raised.
The cabin has a plastic interior with glazed windows and a roof mounted weight monitoring system, complete with digital displays on both sides indicating the loaded weight of the truck, here depicting the maximum payload capacity of 240 tons.
One of the really nice features on the model are the front wheels which have a modelled disc brake system whereby as the wheel rotates, the inner callipers remain static with the silver disc rotating and this really looks the part.
The paint finish is to the usual high standard expected from Conrad with accurate printing of the Liebherr name on the sides of the body. The T264 is a great companion for the recently launched Liebherr R9400 shovel and backhoe which have been produced by NZG and can also be utilised alongside the gigantic Liebherr R9800 backhoe and shovel from Conrad. The model has also been produced in a limited edition yellow and grey version which really looks smart.
